NEW Local Tour Applications
There is a NEW Local Tour Permit application online. Please be sure to download this so that you have the proper form. Click Here to Download.

Dear Leaders,

I have recently emailed you all a copy of the new local tour permit. Just in case you didn’t read the fine print, there are a few changes that I would like to bring to your attention.

Under the Leadership and Youth Protection section: effective January 2009, youth protection training will be now valid for two years from completion date.

Under Activity Standards: “Where swimming and boating is included in the program, Safe Swim Defense and/or Safety Afloat standards are to be followed. If climbing/rappelling is included, the Climb on Safely must be followed. At least one person must be trained in CPR from any recognized agency for Safety Afloat and Climb on Safely. At least one adult on a pack overnighter must have completed Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO). Effective for tours beginning Jan. 2009, at least one adult must have completed Planning and Preparing Hazardous Weather training.”

Please check all your unit adults for the status of their trainings (they should all have cards either from online training or a class they took). I check the adults and see who are trained and date of expirations for tour permits.

Youth Protection, Safe Swim/Afloat, Hazardous Weather can be taken online. Climb on Safely, CPR, and Baloo are longer training courses. Baloo is offered several times during the year, check the training calendar for dates. CPR can be taken from a recognized agency.

Thank You.

Louise

Important Note To All Units
If your unit is signed up for a camp and decides not to go, you MUST notify the council as soon as you make this decision so that we can notify the ranger. If the office is closed when you make the decision not to go to camp, you must notify that particular camp's contact. In the case of Brownell, the contacts are Russel Cardinale at
985-395-2501 or Kevin Savoie 985-395-6587. For Mt. Bayou, the contact is Bobby Guilbeau 337-461-2921.
