“School Night for Scouting” August 9-September 30

(posted 5-10-08) The Evangeline Area Council, Boy Scouts of America is set to hold its annual aggressive campaign at schools to recruit for Scouting. The fall membership drive extravaganza is scheduled to kickoff with the Evangeline Area Council Raingutter Regatta Championship on Saturday August 9, 2008. Details are still being ironed out but this event is tentatively scheduled to take place at the Mall of Acadiana! As more details come forth, we will be sure to inform you!

The beginning of the school year is always the marker for ''School Night for Scouting.'' Scout leaders visit schools and talk to boys about the Cub and Boy Scouts and recruit for the program. School Night is the most aggressive time for recruitment, although boys may sign up for Scouting at any time during the year.

The Boy Scouts of America is built around instilling ethical character and responsible citizenship through a program rich with fun and adventure.

For more information on the Evangeline Area Council Boy Scouts' "School Night for Scouting", including information on when the Scouts are recruiting at your school, please call the Evangeline Area Council, Boy Scouts of America at (337) 235-8551.

Evangeline Area Council Popcorn Sale 08 Only 73 days away!!!

(posted 7-20-08)
It is almost time to start thinking about funding all the fun you wish to have with your scouts in the remainder of 2008 and 2009. Popcorn is the Scouts premiere fundraiser and can supplement your entire Scouting program if your pack, troop, or crew gets Organized and sets goals for each registered family. “If everyone does a little, no one has to do a lot”. Here is an example of what a little organization, determination and dedication can do to fund a super program: Did you know that one of our very own scouts ranked 6th in the Southern region and 36th nationally in popcorn sales (see the chart below). Congratulations, Zachary Knight of Troop 446, Our Lady of Fatima for putting together a tremendous plan and selling over $10,042 in popcorn single handedly. Zach’s effort would rank him ahead of some entire scouting units. Your unit can develop seasoned popcorn veterans that will sell their way to a great program and remember your boys aren’t selling popcorn their selling program. Check your district’s webpage or with your local district executive for more information on this year’s District Kickoff and Sales Orientation. The Council’s popcorn sale gets popping on October 1, 2008.
